Ever wondered…how to paint a plane??

British Airways has repainted the first of nine A319 aircraft with a dove design, to mark the start of the London 2012 Olympics.

The artwork was created by Brighton-based designer Pascal Anson, and will make its first scheduled flight on BA’s 1420 Heathrow to Copenhagen, this Tuesday.

I Wanna Tell You A Story…

Tell me a story and I'll listen

Two recent events – comparatively unrelated – have made me think seriously about the way modern brands marketing is done.

Firstly, Facebook introducing their timeline. To begin with, this struck me as an innocuous gimmick designed to breathe a slither of innovation into what has become something of a staid format. As time has gone on, I have realised how important this move could be.

Starbucks – the personal touch

I thought this was a clever idea from Starbucks to introduce people to their new tall latté (with an extra shot of espresso) – visit one of their coffee shops and give them your name by 14th March midday and you get a free one with your name written on it. I fear, by now though, you might be a little ‘laté’!

You’re Hired

After months of searching high and low, Origin are pleased to announced that the wobbly spare desk in the corner of the creative department now has a permanent resident. We’d like to welcome our newest designer who (for reasons only known to himself) likes to go by the alias Littlemark.

Robo-Cop meets Robo-Cheetah

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged about new, scary robotics…

I’ve just come across a new world record that has been achieved by… a robot! Dubbed the Robo-Cheetah, this thing doesn’t run but gallops, and is eerily as competent as its natural counterpart.

A great pair of shorts

A few weeks ago I went to the Cornerhouse to cast my vote in the British Animation Awards’ public choice category. The nominations were (mostly) very impressive. I wanted to post a few of the nominations here, but most seem to be under lock and key and not available online. You’ll have to take my word that a small man who lives inside a domestic cat and uses the ‘back door’ to get in and out is a very good plot for a short film.

Winning Goal

AS we eagerly anticipate the excitement of London 2012 (opening ceremony 27 July), and having seen the Olympic medals designed by David Watkins, I was interested to discover the alternative design approach taken for the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship medals.

“What’s the value of checking in?… I want to be mayor!”

If you’re a regular user of social media, such as Twitter or Foursquare, you’ve undoubtedly been met with sceptical comments along the lines of “Why would I want to tell anyone what I’m having for lunch?” or “Why would I want people to know where I am in the world?”

DoMore or {Less}

Style sheet language, which most web designers and developers are familiar with, describes how an HTML document is structured and styled.

The more universally-adopted form of the style sheet is CSS, which is mostly used, above anything else, to style and make your beautifully crafted websites written in HTML look great.

Last of the winter snow

I came across this nice short piece by photographer and filmmaker Jacob Sutton. It was shot in the Rhône-Alpes region of Tignes, France, starring Artec pro snowboarder William Hughes. The electrifying film sees Hughes light up the snow-covered French hills in a bespoke L.E.D.-enveloped suit.
